Morning Snapshots
Last night had its ups and downs…Phoebe and I got up, I tried to put her down, we got up again, etc. She had a bit of a sniffly nose and couldn’t eat very well. Plus those little eyeballs open up at 11:30 p.m. and don’t want to close until 2:30 a.m.! When we get a glider for the nursery, I’ll just bring the Kindle and read for a while, but last night we sat on the floor and bonded.
This morning, everything is rosy! She seems less snuffly, and I ate a good breakfast. I brought the adorable duck humidifier (thanks, Christie!) downstairs and am humidifying us. My mother-in-law said that our niece Genevieve needed hers quite a bit in the beginning, and if babies need to be kept moist in Pennsylvania, I should probably just be dowsing Phoebe with the watering can every few minutes or so.
We haven’t gotten too much accomplished today yet, besides some dishes and putting some split pea and ham soup into the crock pot for dinner. Yesterday the Brinkmans came over with Bronski-recipe lasagna (delicious!), rolls, salad, and bar cookies. It was great to see them, and entertaining John gave us something to do besides admire the baby nonstop.
Yesterday afternoon Phoebe and I took a walk. It was really hot outside, and we both got a little bit overheated, but it was glorious to be out in the sunshine. Today is kind of gloomy out, but the beautiful flowers celebrating Phoebe’s birth are still brightening up the inside of the house. My goals for today are to file some of the myriad papers floating around the house, return to the world of e-mail, and feed the baby whenever she’s ready for it. I think I’ll even take a nap!

Congratulations on Phoebe’s birth! I would have commented sooner but I lost my WordPress login info.
She’s absolutely adorable. Sabrina and I would like to know if there’s anything that you need for her, especially in the way of clothes (perhaps a few things that aren’t gender-neutral?) Pink, perhaps?
And if you’re having trouble getting Phoebe to sleep, or keeping her asleep, if she’s fussy, it could be trapped gas. In that case, I’ve got two words for you that meant extra sleep for us: Mylicon Drops. (Or any infant gas drops) They were recommended by Chrissy’s pediatrician, and since they are non-medicinal (simethicone) you can give them whenever needed. One dose and a little bouncing/tummy & back rubs, she’d let off some burps or toots and she’d sleep for hours. If she won’t go to sleep, or stay asleep, and her tummy feels firm, they’ll help.
It won’t take too long before she’s sleeping longer, then through the night. Unfortunately, I think the longer she sleeps, the more you’ll be awake, at least for a while.
I look forward to keeping up with her vicariously through your blog 😀
