First Ever Guest Blog Post!
This is Grandpa Hazelton with a guest blog. It was my great opportunity to spend just over 5 days with Phoebe. (Oh, Jess and Dave were also there.) As a grandpa it is really wonderful to get to pick and choose what to do. Change a dirty diaper, sure. Be the first one up and give Phoebe breakfast, sure. Cuddle with her when she is really whiney and tired, sure. Wait; what is wrong with this picture? Am I crazy or what? Yes, the world’s cutest granddaughter can do that to you. This fun stuff also gave me time to reminisce about how I helped feed her mother (break everything into small pieces, get that backwards swipe of the spoon to wipe off the mouth, make sure the thumb is in the mouth when trying to comfort her.) All in all, a lot of work remembered and cherished. We spent Christmas Eve at church with beautiful hymns and a knowledge that children and grandchild alike have a wonderful church home. Christmas day was spent opening tons of presents. (Phoebe lots, Grandpa one.) That’s all right because I got to play with her toys all week, plus curl up in the bag that wrapped a present.
After the second church service of the week we got to watch football. I haven’t watched 3 quarters of a Browns game in a very long time ( if you don’t know why, check their record over the last few years), but sitting in a bar and drinking beer with family and feeding Phoebe made even the Browns exciting. The weather was a little warm, 50s every day. I left beautiful white snow, about a foot, at home. Fortunately it was still there upon my return. On the last day in Boulder a nice long walk with the family solved all the problems of the world and a beautiful Christmas vacation was ended. Then Jess said, “Dad, perhaps you’d like to guest blog.” So I did. I wish everyone reading this, and everyone else who is missing this great literature, a happy and healthy new year!
