Sunday, March 20: Our First Day in Norway
Because of the time difference, we didn’t get to Bergen until Sunday afternoon. Here we are in the Amsterdam airport with our little plane to Norway in the background. As you surely noticed, masks were required in the Denver and Amsterdam airports and on all the planes.
Dave picked us up at the airport, and boy, were we glad to see him! I guess every visitor must take a photo with this sign. I did a little research to learn that Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson won the commission for the Bergen Airport in Norway with this work, This Must Be the Place. The 2.5-ton yellow sign was installed on the hillside overlooking the new terminal in 2017.
It was a 25-minute drive or so to Dave’s apartment, where we took this photo of us all finally together after 2 months.
There’s an amazing park just a short walk up a hill above Dave’s apartment, so we made our way there, knowing that we were going to run out of energy pretty soon after our long trip.
Here are a couple of videos:
After the park, we stopped by Hoggorm pizza for dinner, where Dave and I shared a spicy lamb pizza, and the kids shared pepperoni. Back at the apartment, we turned the couches into two little beds, and we all went to sleep.
