Happy Birthday to me! That’s right, it’s my birthday, and I’m finally adding a new blog post to the famous Gribblog. So far, I’m having a splendid time. We slept in a bit, and then Jess did a little Skype teaching session for her dad’s class. In the meantime, I did a little cleaning. I finally got the sheets back onto the guest bed changed after Jennifer, Lee, and Alexander’s visit over Thanksgiving. It was great to see them again, but it really underscored just how non-baby-friendly our house currently is.

After the Skype session wrapped up, we headed over to Cannon Mine, our local coffee house. En route, Jess picked up some stamps for our Christmas letter at the Post Office while I popped into Santiago’s to pick up a couple of breakfast burritos. Jess reports that the Post Office lines are already epic. Santiago’s often has an epic line, but it wasn’t too bad this morning.

So now, I’m enjoying a slow morning at the coffee house, listening to the Wittenberg vs Wisconsin-Whitewater Division III College Football playoff game. It’s the quarterfinals, and owing to a pair of home playoff games, the first Witt road game in almost a month. It’s been a pretty good game, but the Warhawks currently lead the Tigers by a touchdown and a blocked PAT. Still, it’s the first half and it’s anybody’s game.

Last week, the Tigers destroyed Trine (nee Tri-State University) of Angola, Indiana. I called my dad to rub it in, but unfortunately I got his answering machine. I should get a little bragging time this afternoon, because he obviously owes me a phone call.

It’s been pretty cold the past week here in Colorado. We have a bit of snow on the ground, and the snow we got a couple of weeks ago hasn’t melted from the back porch yet either. I joked the other day that we might be snowed in for the season. Of course, the front yard gets plenty of sun and always melts out quickly. We had a bit of nice weather during the Thanksgiving holiday, and Lee and I had some fun changing the rear brake pads on Taco. Lee was amazed at how easy the job is, and I think everyone was surprised at how cheap the pads are once you have all of the necessary tools. Of course, a jack and a pair of stands are really the only tools you need for a basic brake job, and pretty much every car comes with a jack.

Well, Witt’s quarterback just got his bell rung and might be done for the game. Luckily the backup quarterback came in and threw an immediate touchdown pass. With under a minute left in the first half, the PAT brings Witt back to a 14-13 deficit. Wouldn’t it be great if Witt could stop Wisconsin-Whitewater from reaching their 5th straight Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl appearance?

I hope everyone has an awesome day! I know I will.

p.s. Witt lost, darn it all. But better to keep your starting quarterback out of the game with a concussion than worry about winning!
