Birthday Party!

We Gribbles have been busy! Last week we had something to do every night after work. Luckily, most of it fit into the schedule so that Phoebe could get to bed on time. She goes to sleep at 8:00 p.m. and gets up at 7:00 a.m. Maybe that explains why she has so much energy during the day! Anyway, we wanted to bring you up to the present. We left you on Phoebe’s first birthday, March 24. She had spaghetti, her favorite, for dinner, and she tried some apple juice for the first time. (And last, for a while: her doctor doesn’t recommend giving babies juice at all.) Here’s a video of the juice-drinking. She didn’t seem to like it any better or worse than water.

Juice on First Birthday

The Saturday after Phoebe’s birthday, we had a big party for her. We served fruit and several quiches, and I made my first-ever batch of cinnamon rolls. Delicious! We also made two kinds of cupcakes using our friends Kelli and Pete’s recipes. (You can buy their gluten-free cupcake cookbook here.) We tried a mocha cupcake and an orange dreamsicle one. Lots of our friends stopped by to celebrate, and we had fun playing toddler soccer and watching a kite being flown in the field behind our house. As you know, Phoebe learned to walk about a month ago, so she happily toddled from the living room out to the porch and back over and over. We weren’t sure if she’d be able to make it over the sill of the sliding glass door, but she did!

Inside and Outside

Here are a few more shots from the party.

Mommy eventually realized that Phoebe’s cupcake might work better out on the deck.

Hey! Let me have that camera!

Phoebe has decided that she hates having her diaper changed and getting dressed, so we have to find ways to distract her.

The next day was Sunday, and Phoebe got to wear one of her cute new birthday dresses.

Happy baby!

That afternoon we went out to play soccer. Phoebe had a blanket to sit on so she could watch and a bunch of toys to play with.

I think she's eating a raisin here, although she did try to eat a few rocks.

Sunday night, we took a few videos of Phoebe wandering around in her pajamas before bed.
